Integration of Bicycling and Walking Facilities into the Infrastructure of Urban Communities

Interesting study from Mineta Transportation Institute:
http://transweb.sjsu.edu/PDFs/research/2906-Bicycling-and-Walking-Facilities-Urban-Communities.pdf

12. Separation of Bicycling and Walking Infrastructure – Just as automobiles typically
move at two to four times the speed of bicycles, bicycles typically move at two to
five times the speed of walking. Consequently, for reasons of safety and convenience,
bicycling and walking should be treated as separate methods of transportation
where feasible.
