What’s the best way to get from the sports centre to the library? Know any nice park trails? Tell us about your favourite bike routes and we’ll map them to share with the rest of Town.
The best routes are those with wide streets and few cars. Tell us if you find one.
Ok, that may be over-stating things a little. But still…
I’ve been doing a lot of cycling in town lately, exploring all the many trails and street routes the Town has to offer. Thanks to my handy Runtastic phone app, I’ve been able to map my path and track my progress. This map represents some of my favourite routes all rolled into a single 25km ride. Try it out! You can ride the whole thing, or use it as a guide to explore your own neighbourhood.
Luis St. Laurent >>Yates Drive >>(start of short cut) Snider Terrace >> Gervais Terrace >>Snider Terrace again >> Winn Trail >> cut across short path through park >>Derry Rd -multipurpose path>>at Ontario st cross Derry to North side >>Derry Rd to Commercial St.
This path is fast and fun to ride. It involves only 1 set of lights. I bet you will get faster from Kennedy Circle to Downtown faster than you would drive a car.
I’ve created a public map on Google Maps showing some of my favourite routes, including a fun little bike (or walking) tour of Historic Milton. If you can’t see it below you can look at it here: http://g.co/maps/t8694.
Also, I’ve been using Google Map Maker to officially update the trails and bike lanes in Milton. It takes some time as they have to be approved by others, but we’re getting there. If you know of any other new bike lanes or trails, please let me know. You can see the progress so far by clicking on the ‘Bicycling’ option under ‘Traffic’ in the toolbox on the right.
